From the Vice Chancellor, Brother Peter Bray, FSC, EdD

 

Today we welcome Brother Belayneh Medhanit to Bethlehem University as he takes up his appointment as Vice President for Advancement here. He comes to us from Ethiopia where he has been working at the Ethiopian Catholic University - La Salle. We are very pleased that Brother Belayneh has agreed to take up this appointment and I would ask you to extend a warm welcome to him as he begins his time here. I thank Mr. Isaac Sahhar and the members of the Advancement Office for the way they have coped since Brother Denis left at the end of May.

Gala Dinner - English

Fundraising Gala Dinner

Tickets for the Fundraising Gala Dinner, which will be held on Friday, 29 November 2019, at 7:30 pm at Nissan Banqueting Hall, Bethlehem, are available now at the Advancement Office.

The cost of a ticket for Faculty/ Staff and their partners is 150 NIS.
The cost of a ticket for guests is 200 NIS.

Department of Physical and Occupational Therapy

 

On Thursday and Friday, 8-9 November 2019, Physical and Occupational Therapy students attended a workshop entitled “Communication and Interpersonal Skills”, conducted by Professor Dario Benatti from the Catholic University of Milan, Italy. The workshop focused on highlighting the importance of communication skills during therapy and the proper way of approaching patients. 

 

Palestinian General Syndicate for Physical Therapy (PSPT)

Congratulations to Dr. Thafer Jarrar, Ms. Manar Jaber, and the 2019 graduate P.T students who are now fully licensed practitioners. The cohort successfully passed the PSPT licensing exam which they sat for on 7 November 2019. The examiners noted how distinguished the Bethlehem University graduates were with an outstanding level of knowledge and skills.

Dean of Students Office

 

Struggle to Success

The Afaq group from the Social Activations Unit in the Dean of Students Office organized a seminar titled "Struggle to Success" on Thursday, 21 November 2019, in cooperation with the trainer Usama Faraj. The seminar dealt with several aspects including how to achieve goals, how to love work, how to increase motivation to study, and how to deal with challenges during college and after graduation. 

 

A silent play entitled "Cancer patients”

Under the supervision of the Dean of Students and in cooperation with the Youth Hope group, the Student Senate organized a silent play entitled “Cancer Patients” on Thursday, 21 November 2019.

 

Solidarity Pause

Under the supervision of the Dean of Students, the Progressive Labor Front and the Student Senate organized a solidarity pause on Thursday, 21 November 2019. The pause was in solidarity with the student Khalil Al Banna who was arrested on Wednesday, 20 November 2019, overnight by the Israeli forces from his house in Dheisheh Refugee Camp.

 

Research on Cyber Violence

In cooperation with the Dean of Students, the Women Media and Development “TAM” held a competition about cyber violence, digital security, and privacy issues on Thursday, 21 November 2019, on campus. It aimed to contribute to the reduction of cyber violence in Palestinian society through an initiative on gender-based digital violence. 

 

Solidarity Pause

Under the supervision of the Dean of Students Office, the Student Senate organized a solidarity pause with our families in Gaza and to condemn the Israeli occupation in Gaza and the West Bank. The pause was held on Thursday, 14 November 2019, where speeches emphasized the unity of the Palestinian position.

 

MUN Conference

16 Bethlehem University students from different Faculties will participate in the United Nations Model conference. The conference is organized by the Palestinian Diplomatic Commission and in partnership with five Palestinian Universities; Bethlehem University, Birzeit University, An-Najah University, Arab American University, and Alquds University. The conference will be held in Ramallah on Friday and Saturday, 29-30 November 2019. The students participated in a training program during the Spring 2019 semester. We wish our students all the best and luck.

Faculty of Nursing and Health Sciences

 

On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women which is marked worldwide on 25 November 2019, the Midwifery students held two awareness workshops in cooperation with women's institutions. The main objective of the workshops was to explore the role of midwives in the community as women advocates especially on violence-related topics and to explore the effects of violence on women and family health.

In cooperation with the Al-Walaja village council, the students held a workshop entitled “Take Care of Her, She is Life” on Thursday, 14 November 2019. The second workshop was held on Wednesday, 20 November 2019, entitled “With All Your Strength Say NO" in cooperation with the Palestinian Medical Relief Society in Bethlehem. During both workshops, the students presented several educational topics including women's reproductive rights, kinds of violence against women, ways of protecting women from violence, and the referral system implemented through the Ministry of Health.

The women who attended these workshops expressed their benefit and asked to repeat such educational workshops. The workshops were coordinated by Mrs. Fatima Madany and supervised by the clinical instructors Mrs. Najla Hamamra and Mrs. Dalia Elias.

Athletics Department

 

Bethlehem University women's team participated in the Palestinian Universities Football Championship that was held at Beirzeit University on Wednesday, 20 November 2019. Our team came in second place, while the Arab American University team won first place, and Beirzeit University came in third.

Also, Bethlehem University Badminton and Pool teams participated in the Palestinian Universities Championships for Badminton and Pool that were held at An-Najah University in Nablus on Thursday, 21 November 2019.
