Global Handwashing Day

Global Handwashing Day is celebrated worldwide on 5 May, so six senior nursing students currently taking the Nursing Management course at Al-Ahli Hospital took part of an awareness activity, supervised by Dr. Yousef Jaradat. The students designed a questionnaire about handwashing, asked the medical staff to complete this, and screened a video that was produced by a graduate of the Faculty of Nursing and Health Sciences at Bethlehem University. A memorable day.

Commemorating Nakba Day

The Dean of Students Office, in cooperation with Bethlehem University administration and the Student Senate, stood together in solidarity to commemorate the 71st anniversary of Nakba Day or “catastrophe” on campus on Wednesday, 15 May 2019. Faculty, Staff and students gathered in front of De La Salle Hall where speeches emphasized the importance of commemorating Nakba and the right of return.

Photo Gallery and Lecture

Marking the 71st anniversary of Nakba, the Jabra group from the Social Activations Unit in the Dean of Students Office put Palestinian flags up around campus. The flag represents all Palestinians regardless of their intellectual, religious, or political affiliations. A photo gallery was displayed to refute the arguments that the Palestinian people have no rights in their homeland. A lecture was also organized in cooperation with BADIL Resource Center for Palestinian Residency and Refugee Rights on the continuation of the Nakba and the policies of displacement.

Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning

The Center for Excellence for Teaching & Learning held its third roundtable discussion on Ethical and Moral Conduct on Bethlehem University Campus on Thursday, 16 May 2019. Twenty-one faculty members across campus attended the discussion, which was facilitated by Dr. Michael Sansur and Dr. Hala Nassar. The participants discussed what could be defined as unethical and immoral conduct, how to deal with reporting such issues, and to whom. Many themes like dress code, slogans, graffiti, verbal communication, tolerance, and discrimination were tackled among other topics. The goal of these Roundtables is to come up with a policy on ethical and moral conduct on campus for Bethlehem University community.

The Center for Excellence for Teaching & Learning will conduct a workshop on 31 May 2019. The focus of the session will be on finding ways to support university lecturers and researchers from all disciplines and subjects within universities and those professions and organisations beyond, to use the arts to conduct research. The Beyond Text 3 Year Project; in which Bethlehem University is a partner, has now created and successfully piloted a module applicable at Masters, Doctoral and Post-Doctoral levels, that equips participants in different fields to develop innovative arts-based research methods. The session will involve an overview of arts-based research, engagement with methods, presentation including case studies/examples and a direct link through to publication outcomes.
