Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning

 

CETL conducted its 3rd Peer Initiative session on Creative Teaching Pedagogies: Found Poetry as a Creative Teaching Method on Thursday, 28 March 2019. The session was facilitated by Dr. Fadel Alsawayfa from the Faculty of Education. Bethlehem University faculty members attended and participated in the discussion.

Institute of Hotel Management and Tourism

 

Congratulations to our IATA students for passing the International Air Traffic Association exams. For the ninth consecutive year, our students success rate was 100% this year. Special thanks to all IATA teachers and instructors for a job well done.

 

Congratulations to our Alumna Mona Khalilieh for finishing her master's degree in Malta.

 

Within the French cultural week, the Institute hosted four French experts to train our students in the arts of making chocolates, bread and wine.

 

The Institute of Hotel Management and Tourism announces the closing of its Training Restaurant “La Cave Du Rois” for the Spring 2019 semester. Thursday, 23 May 2019, will be the last day. Thanks.

Faculty of Nursing and Health Sciences / Qubeibeh

 

On Thursday, 28 March 2019, senior nursing students in Qubeibeh Nursing organized a psychiatric workshop entitled "Mental Health between Myth and Fact" supervised by Mr. Ayman Lobod. The workshop aimed to provide insight and practical strategies necessary to help create awareness, build understanding and correct the myth of mental health concerns. The workshop included three sketches about depression, schizophrenia and electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). The School Parents Council in Al Qubeibeh area attended the workshop and expressed their admiration towards the event, wishing for more similar activities.

Department of Physical and Occupational Therapy

 

Music Therapy Workshop

On Wednesday, 3 April 2019, the physical and occupational therapy students took part in a music therapy workshop given by professor Dario Benatti from the Catholic University of Milan and music Prima/ Italy. The workshop highlighted key components in music therapy; the importance of touch and movement, patient confirmation, and engage with clients.
The afternoon was interactive and fun through practical training.

 

Physiotherapy in Different International Health Contexts: Case Study

On Friday, 5 April 2019, five physiotherapy senior students participated in a videoconference with other physiotherapy students from Oxford Brookes University, UK. They discussed how the same patient case study would be managed within their own health system. The aim of this videoconference was to develop students’ understanding of how different health and social care context influence physiotherapy’s role and scope. The videoconference was facilitated by Ms. Manar Jaber from Bethlehem University, and Prof. Tim Ainslie from Oxford Brookes University.

The Shucri Ibrahim Dabdoub Faculty of Business Administration

 

The Shucri Ibrahim Dabdoub Faculty of Business Administration at Bethlehem University is pleased to announce the call for applications to the fifteenth cohort of MICAD - Master in International Cooperation and Development.

Interested people have to submit the application form along with the required supporting documents to the Faculty of Business Administration from April 15 to July 5, 2019 during office hours 8:00 – 16:00 Monday through Friday. Department of Arabic/ Media

 

Chairperson of Arabic / Media Department Dr. Said Ayyad gave a lecture on the role of colonial media and its mechanisms in controlling peoples' awareness. The Canadian Professor Greg Shupak also gave a lecture that included examples on the Western media bias. The Symposium was organized by the Alternative Information Center and was attended by journalists.  

 

The Arabic / Media Department organized a seminar to encourage students to read. Students from different faculties presented their summary of their readings and writings. Faculty members attended the seminar that was moderated by Dr. Said Ayyad and Dr. Ziyd Banishamsa.

Athletics Department

 

Ms. Samar Mousa was honored for her research entitled "The Role of Physical Activity at University Level in Developing Female Player's Personality" which was listed as one of the top researches at the first Arab Women Sport Conference held in Cairo on 28 and 29 March 2019. The research was approved by the research committee at the conference and it will be published in the International Journal of Sports Science & Arts (IJSSA) in Cairo, Egypt.

 

The Athletics Department in cooperation with the Student Senate organized "Mr. Amin Zeit Football Tournament" on Friday, 29 March 2019. Nine teams participated from different departments. The Faculty of Education team won the trounament while the Faculty of Arts team came in second. Medals and trophies were distributed on the winning teams. Our female volleyball team was also honored for winning 1st place in the Palestinian Universities Volleyball Championship.

A group of students from the Faculty of Education visited the Saint Nicolas Home Charitable Society for the Elderly on Friday, 29 March 2019, under the supervision of Mrs. Nataly Toubassi. The visit, which was organized by the Faculty's Social Committee, aimed to celebrate mother’s day and to bring joy and happiness to the elderly.

Dean of Students Office

 

Second Jerusalem Cultural Competition

Bethlehem University team came in the second place in the second Jerusalem Cultural Competition under the title “Archaeological and Religious Sites in Palestine”. The competition was organized by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in partnership with the Dean of Students Offices in the Palestinian Universities. The competition was held at Hebron University on Tuesday, 2 April 2019, in which 14 universities participated.

The following students represented Bethlehem University: Hala Turshan, Abdallah Jubran, Raed Abu Zir and Esam Shqair from Qubiebeh. We thank our students for their great performance and for representing Bethlehem University. Congratulations.

 

"Maryam"

The Dean of Students Office in cooperation with Dar al-Kalima University College of Arts & Culture organized the performance of a play called “Maryam - a woman from Bethlehem” on Thursday, 4 April 2019. The play was created from more than thirty interviews done with Palestinians who, for the most part, are living in Bethlehem. They were asked “who is Mary/Maryam in 21st Century Bethlehem?” The play has new theater perspective and reflects what the Virgin Mary means to Palestinian Muslims and Christians through faith and social perspectives. Many students and Faculty members attended and took part in the discussion that was held after the performance. The play was created and directed by Victoria Rue, M.Div., Ph.D.

 

Land Day

On Saturday, 6 April 2019, more than 50 students participated in the Land Day activities that were organized by Al Ofoq organization for Youth development in cooperation with the Dean of Students Office and the local community organizations. The event was held in Al-Walaja in an area threatened with confiscation. The students volunteered with great responsibility and respect to land. The organizers of this event commented "Bethlehem University students added a beautiful spirit to this activity”.

 

Student Senate Elections Spring 2019

The Student Senate Elections Committee at Bethlehem University held an emergency meeting on Friday, 5 April 2019 at 10:00 AM to discuss the decision of “Wattan" bloc withdrawal from the Elections. After reviewing the Bethlehem University elections bylaws of the Students Senate, the Committee decided to consider “Al-Quds Wa al’awda” bloc the winner of all the 31 conference seats by acclamation. Accordingly, the head of the bloc is assigned to prepare for the first meeting of the conference members within one week and to select a council secretariat.

The Dean of Students Office would like to express their thanks and gratitude to the elections committee, for their presence, support and participation in all related matters of the student senate elections.

Department of Mathematics

 

The Department of Mathematics held the second workshop for Math major students on Monday, 1 April 2019, moderated by Mr. Moath Moreb from Alnayzak Foundation. The students were engaged in designing a tool with three functions. The workshop aimed to promote creativity and enhance teamwork.
