Department of Physical and Occupational Therapy

 

On Wednesday, 27 and Thursday, 28 March we were honored to have The Bethlehem Project organization visit and provide workshops for occupational therapy and physiotherapy students and graduates on practical subjects which challenge students and clinicians alike in their work. Subjects covered included behavioral management, teaching social skills use of social stories and the development of numeracy school skills. In addition to lectures practical sessions were held making for an interactive two day program. The Bethlehem Project are committed to supporting Palestinian students and centers with children with disabilities. We appreciate their continued support.

Department of Arabic/ Media

 

In a meeting with the municipality of Beit Jala, Dr. Said Ayyad and Dr. Ziyad Bani Shamsa presented their idea of writing a literary encyclopedia, which will include a number of the most important authors, journalists, musicians, and actors of Bethlehem over the past hundred years. The meeting was attended by the mayor of Beit Jala and a large number of intellectuals and writers.

 

Chairperson of Arabic / Media Department Dr. Said Ayyad participated in a literary symposium that was organized by Jericho and Al-Aghwar Governorate on the National Culture Week. In cooperation with the Arab League for Literature, the symposium was attended by a large number of writers, intellectuals and officials.

Dean of Students Office

 

Zeyara (visit) Program

Six Bethlehem University students participated in “zeyara” program under the supervision of the Dean of students. The program is organized by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in partnership with the students' activities committee in the Dean of Students Offices all over Palestinian Universities. This activity is scheduled to be done every semester. For Spring 2019, the zeyara program was held on Monday, 25 March 2019 in Jenin area in memory of Land Day. The program included meeting the Governor, the director of Education Directorate in Jenin area, and Dr. Ihab Qubbaj Deputy Minister of Higher Education. The participants visited the Church of Burqeen the fourth oldest church in the world, and the cemetery of Iraqi martyrs where a wreath of roses was presented to the spirit of martyrs who took part in the resistance in 1948. Then, they visited Bal’ameh Tunnel in which all attendees sang the national song Mawtini (my homeland). They also visited the Arab American University and had lunch.

We thank the students who participated in this program; Raed Abu Zer, Jamileh Janazreh, Eliza Tamimi, Basha’er Safadi, Esam Shqair and Abd Al Majeed Ramadan.

 

Solidarity Pause

The Student Senate organized a solidarity pause condemning the recent killings of young Palestinians and in solidarity with their families under the supervision of the Dean of Students Office on Thursday, 28 March 2019. BU administration, faculty, staff, and students participated in this pause.

The Senate cancelled the annual Palestinian wedding activity that was supposed to be held on the same day.

 

Film Screening “A Beautiful Mind”

The Mathematics Department in cooperation with the Dean of Students Office organized a screening of the Oscar-winning film “A Beautiful Mind” on Thursday, 28 March 2019.

"A Beautiful Mind" is an American biographical drama film based on the life of John Nash. He was an American Mathematician who made fundamental contributions to game theory, differential geometry, cryptology and the study of partial differential equations. His theories are widely used in economics. He shared the 1994 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences with game theorists Reinhard Selten and John Harsanyi.
