Ash Wednesday 2019

On Wednesday, 6 March 2019

the Church celebrates Ash Wednesday; which is the first day of Lent. Celebrations will be held in the Chapel of Divine Child according to the following program:

1. At 12:00 pm: Holy Mass in Arabic, with distribution of Ashes.

2. At 3:00 pm: Distribution of Ashes accompanied by a Liturgy of the Word, for those who couldn’t attend the Mass.

Blessed Lent for all!

Alumni Relations Office

 

The Alumni Relations Office finished the selection process and training of the student ambassadors who will participate in the Sir John MucGuckin Internship Program in the summer. The students will be placed in host organizations located in Washington, North Carolina, and Alabama. They will be engaged in several training sessions before leaving to the US.

 

The office will organize an alumni gathering in Dubai in May 2019. Alumni living in Dubai are willing to help in organizing and inviting other alumni and friends interested in supporting Bethlehem University's mission.

 

In cooperation with the Faculty of Nursing and Health Sciences, the office will also organize an alumni gathering on Tuesday, 2 April 2019 in the Auditorium. The aim is to strengthen the relations between the University and the graduates and to share the experiences of our graduates who are working in the field.

Department of Arabic/ Media

 

Chairperson of the Arabic Department Dr. Said Ayyad presented a lecture on "Combating Hate Speech in the Palestinian Society" in Hebron. The lecture was organized by the Arab Association for Arts and Culture in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and the Chamber of Commerce in Hebron. It was attended by a large number of academics, writers, journalists, and politicians. It was followed by an important discussion with the participants. The lecture was moderated by the Palestinian author Asma Wazuz.

Dean of Students Office

 

Dialogue Session on “Civil Marriage”

The “Books Not Walls”, a group from the cultural activations unit of the Dean of Students Office, organized a dialogue session on civil marriage on Wednesday, 27 February 2019. The session aimed to open a dialogue platform for students to express their views in a civilized way.

 

Students of Farkha Secondary School Visit Campus

In coordination of the Dean of Students Office, 53 students from Farkha Secondary School visited campus in order to know more about Bethlehem University and the different educational programs that are offered. They were divided into groups and had a tour around campus accompanied by student counselors from the Dean of Students office.

 

Film Screening: “Hidden Figures”

The Mathematics Department in cooperation with the Dean of Students Office organized a film screening of the “Hidden Figures” movie on Thursday, 28 February 2019. The movie is a true story about three very intelligent African American women who were working at NASA. The three women were mathematicians and serve as the brains behind one of the greatest operation in NASA history. Many students attended the event.

Faculty of Nursing and Health Sciences

 

The Faculty of Nursing and Health Sciences is mourning the death of Sister Gilbert (Wedad) Saliba, Director of Saint Joseph Hospital in Jerusalem. Sr. Gilbert was a supporter of the Faculty and its students. She passed away yesterday at the age of 85. May her soul rest in peace.

 

As part of the Faculty exchange program, Dean Mariam Awad hosted the ActionAid Palestine and senior nursing students from Denmark. An overview and history of the Faculty was presented together with information concerning health in Palestine. A tour of the simulation laboratory was given by Ms. Salam Awwad. The students discussed their professions and the challenges faced through a question and answer session.
