Bethlehem University Convenes 37th Graduation Ceremony

A New Cohort of More than 700 Palestinian Leaders Prepared to Go Forth

"Palestine needs you to go forth and to build this nation with integrity and creativity," said Brother Peter Bray, Bethlehem University Vice Chancellor, to the 721 members of the graduating class of 2013. 

"You will be the builders of Palestine," said Her Honor, Mrs. Vera Baboun, Mayor of Bethlehem and a 1985 graduate of Bethlehem University.

"Make use of every single experience and treasure the education you received at Bethlehem University, remembering to contribute back to your University as you go forth to create the new Palestine," said Mr. Hani Imam, a 1977 graduate of Bethlehem University and member of the Bethlehem University Foundation Board of Directors.

"While you are graduating today, the reality is that you will always be a part of Bethlehem University. Together with you and the thousands of other graduates, Bethlehem University is introducing new programs that are vital to the ongoing development of Palestinian society," said Mr. Fu’ad Kattan, Chair of the Board of Trustees of Bethlehem University.

As a testament to the dignity of the Palestinian people, His Grace Bishop Dr. Munib Younan, Lutheran Bishop of Jerusalem and the proud father of Ms. Martha Younan, who graduated this year as an Occupational Therapist from the Faculty of Nursing and Health Sciences, asked the graduates to carry forth into society the values of human dignity, women’s rights, freedom of expression and religion, as well as equal citizenship for all people, including minorities.

On Thursday and Friday, 27 and 28 June 2013, more than 5,000 people gathered at Bethlehem University to celebrate the graduation of 721 students.

With each graduating class, the Founders, Regents, Board of Trustees, administration and faculty of Bethlehem University reaffirm their commitment to serving the Palestinian society by providing high-quality education designed to meet the needs of the Palestinian society. Soon, for instance, Bethlehem University will offer Palestine’s first ever Masters in Social Work as well as a new Masters in Public Administration and Governance, and in September 2013, a new Masters in Tourism Management will be offered. Already, Bethlehem University offers a world-renowned Masters in International Cooperation and Development (MICAD) as well as a top-rate Masters in Biotechnology.

  • Mr. Munib Masri, a prominent Palestinian business man, philanthropist, and investor;
  • His Excellency Minister Abdel Fattah Hamayil, Governor of Bethlehem;
  • Father Ibrahim Faltas, Econome of the Custody of the Holy Land;
  • Mr. Abdalqader Husseini, member of the Board of Trustees of Bethlehem University;
  • Mr. Hani Abu Dayyeh, member of the Board of Trustees of Bethlehem University;
  • Brother Jean Manuel, member of the Board of Trustees of Bethlehem University

O2013 Graduatesn Thursday, 27 June, the ceremony was held for those graduating from the Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Education, and the Faculty of Nursing and Health Sciences. On Friday, 28 June, the ceremony was held for those graduating from the Faculty of Science, the Shucri Ibrahim Dabdoub Faculty of Business Administration, and the Institute of Hotel Management and Tourism.

The Master of Ceremonies for the graduation ceremonies was Dr. Muna Matar, a 1981 graduate of Bethlehem University who is now Chair of the Department of Computer Information Systems in the Faculty of Science.
