Bethlehem University Begins Spring 2013 Semester with Faculty and Staff Meeting

"I am particularly impressed by the increasing number of the faculty who are taking the initiative to improve the quality of what we are offering," said Brother Peter Bray, Vice Chancellor of Bethlehem University, as he kicked off the Faculty/Staff meeting that begins the Spring 2013 semester, held 16 January in the Anton Brother Peter addresses faculty and staffSansur Hall at the Social Cultural Center of Bethlehem University. In his remarks, Brother Peter also made special mention of the Centre for the Excellence of Teaching and Learning (CETL) at Bethlehem University, led by Dr. Rabab Tamish, which helps faculty to improve their education methods to better serve the Bethlehem University students.

After an opening prayer led by Dr. Michael Sansur, Executive Vice President, Dr. Irene Hazou, Vice President for Academic Affairs, welcomed faculty and staff, and gave Deans and Chairs of Departments the opportunity to introduce the new faculty and staff members to their peers.

Dr. Hazou also highlighted the importance of two issues. The first is to continue to raise academic standards throughout Bethlehem University, particularly by focusing on mastering English, and the second is to equip students to serve Palestine as innovative and entrepreneurial global citizens by raising English language and Information Technology competencies.

The difficult economic situation in Palestine continues to impact Bethlehem University, explained Mr. Youil Anastas, Vice President for Financial Affairs, as many students are unable to pay tuition rates. The cost is $4,000 U.S. for each student to attend Bethlehem University each year, an amount that is not feasible for most students and their families. Therefore, Bethlehem University offers as much need-based financial aid as possible, ultimately raising 65 percent of the funds needed, on average, for each student.
