Dr. Said Ayyad Centre for Interactive Media and Communications

Introduction & Background

Dr. Said Ayyad Center for Interactive Media and Communications was established at Bethlehem University on 6 June 2022 and was certified by the Palestinian Ministry of Information in the same year.

The services of the Center are offered to both the campus community of students, faculty and staff as well as to the larger community in Palestine.

The centre aims to build capabilities in new interactive media, produce scientific and media research and studies, implement activities and awareness campaigns that serve society, gender issues, and people with disabilities. It also aims to produce media materials in various societal and cultural fields, build local and international relationships and partnerships to develop media, and work to develop ethical codes related to media education.

Programs Offered by the Centre:

  • Capacity building

The Centre organizes media competitions and training courses targeting: Bethlehem University students, members of the local community, media professionals, marginalized groups, including people with disabilities, with the aim of honing media capabilities and skills, developing talents.

  • Awareness Raising Campaigns and Activities:

The center targets marginalized groups, including people with disabilities with campaigns and activities that aim to integrate as active members in the community. Other campaigns and activities target social issues including gender discrimination among others.

  • Media Literacy and Ethics:

Media literacy and raising awareness about due diligence in the production, reporting and reading of news are embedded in all the programs and training provided by the Center.  Media ethics and the journalistic code of honor are foundational in all the programs offered by the Center for the purpose of developing journalism in Palestine whether it is practiced by regular citizens or professionals.

  • Scientific Research and Studies

The Center works on producing and promoting academic research and studies in Media keeping the field updated with the latest knowledge, findings, and technology, and availing all that to the local and professional communities.

  • Media Production and Publishing

Professionals at the center work to produce publish materials that meets the social, cultural and educational needs as identified by the university and the local community.

Vision & Mission

The vision of the Center is to provide capacity building and developmental programs and services that promote ethical principals in the production and dissemination of knowledge; academic research in Media Studies; raise awareness about critical issues related to, gender, disability, privacy, among other pressing needs in the society; and produce high quality cultural materials.

The center’s mission aligns with the mission of the Interactive Media & Communications program and the one of Bethlehem University, which emphasizes excellence in its academic programs, and on elevating students to be committed and leaders in society, and nurtures shared values, ethical principles, and dedication to serving the public good, based on rationality, ethical vision, and humanitarian principles.
