As part of Bethlehem University’s commitment to transformative education and community engagement, second-year Occupational Therapy students visited St. Nicolas Home for the elderly in Beit Jala on Saturday, 15 March 2025. The visit was conducted within the framework of the OCTH 210 (Occupational Therapy Physical I) course under the supervision of Ms. Wisal Chamrukh.
The students facilitated a range of activities tailored to the residents’ needs, focusing on daily living exercises designed to enhance motivation and improve their overall quality of life. This initiative underscores Bethlehem University’s dedication to equipping students with hands-on experience while making a meaningful impact on the local community.
During the visit, students gained firsthand experience by working directly with elderly residents, assessing their needs, and tailoring interventions accordingly. The experience was designed to foster empathy, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills—essential competencies for future occupational therapists.
To reinforce learning outcomes, students were required to complete two assignments—one group-based and one individual. These assignments focused on analyzing clients’ abilities based on observations recorded during the visit. Through this process, students developed a deeper understanding of geriatric care, enhancing their ability to assess and support individuals with varying physical and cognitive needs.
By incorporating experiential learning, Bethlehem University continues to cultivate professionals who are not only highly skilled but also socially responsible. The impact of such initiatives extends beyond the classroom, strengthening the university’s role as a leader in academic excellence and community service.
Bethlehem University remains dedicated to fostering an educational environment where students actively engage with the community, develop their professional competencies, and contribute to societal well-being. Through programs like Occupational Therapy, the university reinforces its mission of service, leadership, and academic distinction—ensuring that graduates are well-equipped to create positive change in their communities and beyond.
