On Thursday, November 21, 2024, the Human Resources Office at Bethlehem University, in collaboration with the Institute for Community Engagement and Partnership (ICEP), conducted a vital training workshop titled “Protection from Harassment, Abuse, and Sexual Exploitation Policy at Bethlehem University.”
The workshop addressed the global issue of sexual exploitation, assault, and harassment (SEAH), which deeply impacts individuals, families, and institutions worldwide, including in Palestine. These harmful behaviors are often underreported and ignored when brought forward, perpetuating their negative effects.
Bethlehem University, recognizing its significant role in combating sexual violence, has implemented a comprehensive policy designed to protect employees, students, and community partners. The policy outlines clear mechanisms for addressing and holding perpetrators of sexual violence accountable, fostering a safer and more inclusive environment.
The session, led by Ms. Maysoun Ramadan from ICEP, focused on key concepts of sexual exploitation, assault, and harassment while providing an in-depth understanding of Bethlehem University’s policy. The one-and-a-half-hour workshop specifically targeted new faculty and staff members and aimed to:
- Raise awareness of sexual harassment issues
- Increase sensitivity towards victims of sexual harassment and sexual assault.
- How to deal with victims and provide first aid
Bethlehem University remains committed to fostering a safe, respectful, and supportive community by raising awareness and equipping its members to address these critical issues effectively.
