Bethlehem University Nursing Students Learn Emergency Care from PRCS Experts

As part of the Advanced Medical-Surgical Nursing course, which includes emergency nursing care, an insightful and practical learning event was coordinated to enhance the students’ understanding of emergency care and first aid.

The event featured Mr. Abdul Haleem Jaafreh, Director of the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) branch in Bethlehem, who delivered an engaging lecture to senior nursing students. His presentation highlighted the mission of PRCS and the vital roles played by paramedics. He discussed first aid for common health emergencies, including bleeding, fractures, poisoning, and burns. Additionally, Mr. Jaafreh shed light on the challenges faced by PRCS staff, such as navigating road closures and other obstacles that hinder their ability to reach patients promptly.

Following the lecture, Mr. Naim Jawareesh, a PRCS paramedic, conducted a hands-on simulation in the university’s parking lot. The scenario involved a simulated injury case, demonstrating field stabilization, first aid application, and proper techniques for lifting and transporting the victim into an ambulance. Both senior nursing students and students enrolled in the elective First Aid course actively participated in the simulation, gaining invaluable practical experience.

Faculty members Ms. Etaf Maqboul, Mr. Naji Abu Ali, Ms. Amal Abu Nijmeh, Dr. Hanan Hazboun, and Mr. NourAldeen Talbishi joined the event, providing their expertise and support.

This collaborative effort underscores Bethlehem University’s commitment to preparing nursing students for real-world challenges by integrating theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience in emergency care.
