Workshop on Sustainable Agriculture at PIBS

The Palestine Institute for Biodiversity and Sustainability at Bethlehem University, in collaboration with the A.M. Qattan Foundation, organized a workshop for students from Thabra Mixed Basic School on Thursday, 26 September 2024.

The workshop focused on sustainable agriculture, covering the history of farming in Palestine and highlighting its rich agricultural heritage along with fundamental environmental principles. It emphasized the importance of biodiversity and the differences between organic and non-organic farming, while also addressing challenges faced by farmers, such as soil drought and high salinity, and offering potential solutions.

During the workshop, students participated in a guided tour of the exhibits and the institute’s botanical garden, allowing them to see the concepts discussed in action. Practical activities included land preparation, irrigation techniques, and composting, enabling students to learn how to produce natural fertilizers from organic waste.

The workshop aimed to enhance environmental awareness and educate students about sustainable agriculture, contributing to a more sustainable future for their communities.
