Meet the Chair

Fadel Jobran Alsawayfa is an Assistant Professor of Education, Chairperson of Early Childhood Education Department and the Coordinator of the Master’s Program in Creative Pedagogies and Community Practices. He completed a doctor in Creative Pedagogies in Education degree from the University of Chester and a Master of Arts in Comparative Education from the Institute of Education, University of London.

Fadel is passionate about research and teaching methods that are inspired by the arts and use creativity. He teaches courses in learning theories, play and creativity, language and thought, growth and development of the child, drama and storytelling to undergraduate and postgraduate students. His research is mostly about helping future teachers and other professionals see themselves as motivated, creative learners who bring about change that is right for the situation and is led by the practitioner. He uses arts-based research methods, self-reflexive methodologies like self-study, poetic inquiry, autoethnography, and narrative inquiry.

His forthcoming book with Brill Sense is titled ‘The Road to Found Poetry: Understanding People’s Perceptions and Lived Experiences Creatively’. He has recently contributed two book chapters titled:  ‘Home  and Abroad: Exploring my Lived Experiences through Poetry and Narrative’, and ‘Imagining the Past and Remembering the Future: Autoethnography as a Way to Understand and Change’.
