Environmental Education at PIBS

During the week of 29 July, the Palestine Institute of Biodiversity and Sustainability (PIBS) team was actively engaged in advancing environmental education through a series of activities.

Through its Palestine Museum of Natural History (PMNH), the institute hosted two summer camp visits, directly interacting with 40 children from the Bethlehem Governorate. The children explored the museum’s natural history and ethnography exhibits, as well as its botanical garden. This hands-on experience provided an excellent opportunity for the children to connect with nature and foster a deeper appreciation for the environment.

Additionally, PIBS conducted an educational field trip to Cremisan for 26 children from the Little Chef Summer Camp. The visit aimed to emphasize the significance of sustainable land use and healthy eating. The children enjoyed a traditional Palestinian breakfast and engaged in food-themed games that effectively combined learning with enjoyment.

Beyond these activities with children, PIBS also hosted a workshop led by Professor Mazin Qumsiyeh, titled “Evaluation and Management Plan for Protected Areas (PAs) Containing Wetlands in the Jordan Valley, Palestine.” This workshop, part of a regular series, was targeted at an email list of key biodiversity stakeholders.

Through these varied educational initiatives, PIBS continues to foster environmental conservation within the community.
