Program Description

The primary purpose of the baccalaureate nursing program of Bethlehem University is to educate professional nurses to meet the health and nursing needs of the Palestinian Society. The baccalaureate nursing program is designed to prepare nurses to professionally contribute to the well-being and offer significant health services to people.

The Faculty of Nursing participates in promoting the profession by updating its programs according to the society’s needs. Thus, its graduates provide leadership for the improvement of health and nursing care. They also function effectively on a professional level, and recognize the need for continuing professional development. The faculty of Nursing also gives an opportunity for Palestinian nurses to specialize in certain areas such as Midwifery, Neonatal nursing, Emergency, Oncology and Palliative Care and up-grading program, thus trying to maintain high standards of professional care.

Finally, one of the program’s aspirations is for the society to value nursing as a profession of life-long learning and caring.

The Faculty of Nursing and Health Sciences offers four distinct programs leading to a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing, Midwifery, Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy.  The Nursing program is also offered on the University’s off campus site in Qubeibeh. These programs prepare professional graduates who can work with a multidisciplinary health team, clients, and their families to meet the client’s health needs and to upgrade the quality of health care in various health settings.

The language of instruction in the Faculty of Nursing and Health Sciences is English.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the program, students will be able to:

Knowledge and understanding
  1. highlight nursing as a unique profession through understanding the historical context, as well as critical reflection of contemporary nursing practice.
  2. Identify appropriate professional nursing behavior in practice.
  3. Appraise current theoretical practical perspectives.
  4. Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of bio-psycho-social sciences and their critical application to the care of service users all through lifespan.
  5. Recognize through the application of assessment skills, the essential care needs of all client groups and demonstrate an ability to respond appropriately.
  6. Enhance service quality for beneficiaries with complex health care needs, through employing appropriate assessment approaches, evaluating evidence base and effectiveness to plan and deliver appropriate care.
  7. Evaluate legal and ethical frameworks applied to health and social care that critically assess their application to services delivered to beneficiaries.
  8. Evaluate the impact of current health and social care policy on Services provided to beneficiaries through knowledge and understanding mechanisms adopted to generate policies.
  9. Demonstrate principles of evidence-based practice and research process, as well as their application to providing services to beneficiaries.
  10. Utilize knowledge and understanding of individual and collective beliefs and cultural practices to promote equality, respect diversity and recognize and challenge discriminatory practice.
  11. Realize public health data significance in developing responsive strategy and interventions.

  1. Develop strategies to confidently ask appropriate questions and access contemporary evidence from a variety of sources.
