Prof. Jamil Khader, Dean of Research, attended a meeting, organized by the Palestine Academy for Science and Technology, to explore possible future collaboration and cooperation with the Royal Society of London, at the Ministry of Higher Education on Thursday, 05 December 2019, in Ramallah.
The Royal Society of London, which was established in 1660, is the UK’s independent scientific academy dedicated to promoting excellence in science and research through global partnerships.
The meeting was held under the auspices of H.E. Minister Prof. Marwan Awartani and attended by the Executive Director of the Royal Society UK, Dr. Julie Maxton, Director of International Affairs Mr. Andrew Allen, and members of PALAST Advisory and Steering Committee, including members of the Science Bridges Committees, the Deans of Scientific Research and other representatives from various Palestinian Universities.
The meeting stressed the importance of cooperation with academics in the United Kingdom for stimulating scientific research in Palestine through joint research projects between British and Palestinian research communities, mentoring and training networks, and the possibility of transferring expertise and technology to Palestine to help develop the research infrastructure at Palestinian universities and research centers.
The Palestine Academy hopes to begin coordinating research-related activities and networks with the British Royal Society in the near future.
Dean of Research Prof. Khader notes that part of Bethlehem University’s research strategic plan is promoting excellence in research through international networks and collaboration, and that Bethlehem University faculty and researchers are encouraged to take advantage of these opportunities, in order to enhance their visibility as researchers and the research profile of Bethlehem University in the region and around the world.
