Welcoming new students on Orientation Day

For most young people, starting university after 12 years of school feels like starting a new life. New environment, new people, new expectations. Bethlehem University wants to make this transition as easy as possible for it's over 900 freshmen who will start classes next Monday, August 21st.

During the Orientation Day, which took place on Wednesday, August 16th  and Thursday, August 17th, they were formally welcomed by the Executive Council of Bethlehem University, including Dr. Mahmud Hammad, Dean of Students, and Br. Peter Bray, Vice Chancellor of Bethlehem University. Br. Peter gave a heartfelt speech to the students who gathered in the University's auditorium, emphasizing that Bethlehem University for them is more than a school, but also a safe place. Knowing about the difficulties the students have to face due to the military occupation – especially when coming from outside of Bethlehem – the De La Salle Brothers want the campus to be an "Oasis of Peace“ and a "Beacon of Hope" for them. "Here, nobody will interrogate you, nobody will stop or harm you. Here at Bethlehem University, the Faculty and Staff are not superior to you. They are your older brothers and sisters. They will care about you!“

Afterwards, four members of the "Student Ambassador Program“ introduced the freshmen to the idea of being an Ambassador for your University and also their homeland, presenting their situation of life to visitors from all over the world.

The day was concluded by tours through the campus for which the students where separated in small groups and lead by older students. They learned about the organizational structure of BU and how to find their way around campus.

Bethlehem University welcomes all new students and wishes them the best luck for their studies. Or as Br. Peter said: "I hope to see all of you gathered in this exact place again in 4 years, together with your parents and friends, proudly holding your Graduation Certificate and saying 'I did it!'“
