The Bethlehem Association Continues to Support Bethlehem University Students

The Bethlehem Association is a U.S. based, non-profit organization with a mission that includes strengthening relations among Bethlehemites living abroad, engaging in fundraising activities to help the local communities, granting scholarships to needy students at Bethlehem University, keeping members informed about the Association’s activities, news, and current events, and promoting Bethlehem and its people to allow for a better understanding of the area. The Bethlehem Association was founded in 1985 by Dr. Edward A. Hazboun.

The Association acknowledges the work of Bethlehem University through the scholarship funds it offers, which it has included as part of its mission. The relationship between the Bethlehem Association and Bethlehem University began in the fall of 1997. Since then, every year funds are provided to cover full tuition fees in scholarships for 25 -30 Bethlehem University students. As of the 2016-2017 academic year, the Bethlehem Association has contributed over $350,000 in tuition, giving scholarships to over 200 students. During their last visit to Bethlehem University in September of 2016, Bethlehem Association President, Mr. Maher Elhihi, and Mr. Kevin Kashou met with the Bethlehem Association Scholarship recipients.

Among the outstanding individuals who receive the Bethlehem Association Scholarship is Christine Hazboun. In May of 2017, Christine graduated from Bethlehem University with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. She was a Bethlehem Association Scholarship recipient since she was a sophomore. Now that she has graduated, she plans to pursue a Master’s degree in Tourism Management.  When she was a student, Christine kept busy with part time jobs aside from her studies. She also participated in Bethlehem University’s work study program in several different departments on campus. She is active in the community, offering up her free time to volunteer at Bethlehem University’s Recourse Center. The Bethlehem Association‘s commitment to support the education of students like Christine plays a vital role in producing a generation willing to give more than they receive. Christine and her fellow Bethlehem Association Scholarship recipients are forever grateful for the Association’s role in ensuring they get the education they need to pursue their dreams.

This year, the Bethlehem Association is hosting its 2017 National Convention from Thursday, August 3, to Sunday, August 6, at the Hilton Miami Airport in Miami, Florida. The aim of the convention is to bring people together, strengthen the ties of Palestinians living all over the world, and raise money to support its mission.
