Feast of Saint John Baptist de La Salle Celebrated at Bethlehem University
On Thursday, May 18, 2017, Bethlehem University celebrated the Feast of Saint John Baptist de La Salle, Founder of the Brothers of the Christian Schools and Patron Saint of All Teachers.
The event began with a Eucharistic celebration at the Chapel of the Divine Child. Reverend Father David Neuhaus, SJ, Patriarchal Vicar for Hebrew-speaking Catholics, gave the sermon during the mass that was attended by His Excellency Most Reverend Giuseppe Lazzarotto, Apostolic Delegate to Jerusalem and Chancellor of Bethlehem University, the De La Salle Christian Brothers, and faculty and staff of Bethlehem University. In his opening remarks, Brother Peter Bray, FSC, EdD, Vice Chancellor, called attendees to reflect on the challenges faced by the Palestinian people and the Bethlehem University community. He also encouraged them to pray to have stronger faith to be able to work together in the community to overcome the challenges that arise. The De La Salle Christian Brothers at Bethlehem University renewed their vows of service to the poor through education.
Following mass, Feast Day continued with the Twenty-First Annual Staff Recognition and Celebration of Service. After Brother Timothy Coldwell, FSC, General Councilor of the De La Salle Christian Brothers, addressed the faculty and staff, Brother Peter Bray, His Excellency Most Reverend Giuseppe Lazzarotto, and Brother Mark McKeon, FSC, Vice President of Human Resources & Administrative Affairs, distributed awards of recognition to faculty and staff who have completed 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 years of service to the University.
In conclusion of the Feast, Bethlehem University faculty and staff were invited to a lunch prepared by the Institute of Hotel Management in the University Garden.
