Bethlehem University Holds Annual Business Market

On Thursday, April 20, 2017, the Faculty of Shucri Ibrahim Dabdoub of Business Administration opened its annual Business Market. Dr. Fadi Kattan, Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration, began the opening ceremony by thanking all the students who participated in the market, as well as the guests who attended and bought products from the students. He also made a point of thanking all of the market’s sponsors, stating that the market’s success would have been impossible without their generous support. Dr. Irene Hazou, Vice President for Academic Affairs, reiterated the thanks extended by Dr. Kattan and also noted the benefits of the market to the students. "The market affords business students the opportunity to put into practice the theories that they have been learning in the classroom for years," said Dr. Hazou.

The market was held from Thursday, April 20 until Sunday, April 23, and featured a variety of business ventures conceived up and run by students from the Faculty of Business Administration. The purpose of the Business Market is to allow the fourth year business students to implement their final seminar projects in a real market environment. The businesses included several jewelry and accessory stands, an athletic gear store, a flower shop, and even an automotive accessory booth. One booth that drew an especially large crowd was The Candy Bar, a pop-up business offering traditional Palestinian sweets, ordinary candy, and a wide assortment of dried fruits. When asked what classroom techniques were used in creating her group’s booth, Lina Asmari said, "While we truly made use of many of the theories we learned in class, the most useful was the concept of global marketing through social media networks. We used this technique on a smaller scale and it proved beneficial to our business." The Candy Bar proved to be an excellent final graduation project, a smart choice of product, and a great success. Issa Najar, a member of the automotive accessory group, recognized that originality is very important when considering what a consumer will appreciate, so his group decided to offer a product that no one had ever sold at a previous Bethlehem University Business Market. Their concept and design paid off, allowing them to create a financially successful niche for their final business seminar project.

Every year, the students, the faculty and staff, and the general public in Bethlehem look forward to the Bethlehem University Business Market, and this year was no different. The market was very well-attended by both the Bethlehem University community and the greater community, and the senior business students are looking forward to receiving their final grades and graduating after the successful completion of their seminar projects.
