Junior Nursing Students Hold Health Awareness Day
On Monday, March 20, and Tuesday, March 21, 2017, junior nursing students from the Faculty of Nursing and Health Sciences organized a Health Awareness Day in the Auditorium. In cooperation with local organizations, groups of students set up attractive and interactive booths to raise awareness about different health issues.
In her opening remarks, Ms. Mariam Awad, Dean of the Faculty of Nursing, welcomed all the guests and explained that the purpose of the event is to shed light on important health issues and to allow the third year nursing students to apply the skills they've learned in class.
In one booth, students provided information about skin and hair care. In another, they gave visitors blood pressure and diabetes tests and provided them with information on how to live with certain conditions. Another booth was dedicated to bone health awareness and was supported by the Palestine Osteoporosis Prevention Society. At the eye health station, students tested visitors’ vision and offered discount coupons to local optical stores. Students running the blood station gave information about the different blood types, and, on the second day, they ran a blood drive and provided free testing for Thalassemia. The final booth presented different first aid interventions.
Health Awareness Day was attended by students, faculty, staff, and visitors from the community who were able to get tested and learn more about their health condition.
