Tourism Career Education & Exploration Open Day for High School Seniors
On Thursday, March 9, 2017, the Bethlehem University Institute of Tourism Training (BUITT) held an open day for high school seniors in the hotel management track at the Grand Park Hotel, Bethlehem. The event was organized to encourage students from local schools to join the Institute of Hotel Management and Tourism at Bethlehem University.
Brother Peter Bray, FSC, Vice Chancellor, welcomed more than thirty seniors from Terra Sancta School in Bethlehem, College des Frères in Jerusalem, and the Latin Patriarchate School in Beit Jala, and expressed how much the University cares for its students explaining that they are investing around $23M in developing the Institute. He added that he hopes to see all of them at Bethlehem University during orientation in the coming academic year.
Mr. Hassan Costantini, Manager of Planning and Business Development, shared with the students the plans to relocate and enlarge the Institute of Hotel Management to the Mount David site which will consist of contemporary classrooms and new state-of-the-art training facilities including a 35 room teaching hotel in the first phase, bringing together theoretical and practical knowledge to prepare students for employment.
Following the screening of a short film about the Institute of Hotel Management and Tourism, Mr. Hani Abu Dayyeh, Chairman of the Board of BUITT, briefed the students about the history of the hospitality industry in Palestine and explained that, due to Palestine’s strategic geographic location, it is essential to develop the industry to benefit the economy.
Mr. Nabil Mufdi, Director of the Institute of Hotel Management and Tourism, followed by emphasizing the importance of tourism as it has become a main source of income for families in Palestine. He called for including classes in tourism for all high school seniors regardless of the academic track they are taking.
Graduate Mr. Kevork Deldelian, Vice President Asset Management at Tetra Hospitality Investment in Abu Dhabi, addressed the students in a video, sharing with them his experience after graduation. He advised students to learn from their professors’ expertise and not to underestimate the information their professors are offering. He emphasized that students’ confidence and ambition should have no limit once they decide to engage in this path.
The event concluded with a Q&A session, followed by refreshments.
