President of the University of Chile Visits Bethlehem University
On Friday, December 16th, Dr. Ennio Vivaldi, President of the University of Chile and H.E. Mr. Francisco Javier Bernales, Ambassador of Chile to the State of Palestine, were welcomed at Bethlehem University by Brother Peter Bray, FSC, Vice Chancellor, Dr. Irene Hazou, Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Mrs. Mariam Awad, Dean of the Faculty of Nursing and Health Sciences. Having previously visited the University of Chile, Brother Peter Bray drew a comparison between the two universities noting their difference in size yet their similarity in standards. Although the University of Chile is 175 years old and the largest University in Chile, with 30,000 students, and Bethlehem University is almost 44 years old, with 3,200 students, both universities emphasize academic excellence, placing them at a high rank among universities in their respective areas.
During the meeting, Dr. Hazou explained to the guests about the academic programs at the Bethlehem University, and Mrs. Awad emphasized the positive role the Faculty of Nursing and Health Sciences has on the Palestinian society. Dr. Vivaldi was enthusiastic about the possibility of working together. The discussion was directed towards future cooperation between the two universities. The two main areas of possible future cooperation are faculty training programs and exchange and internship opportunities for students from both universities. Cooperation is possible in the fields of Nursing, Education, and Tourism. Both universities pride themselves in offering hands-on training to their students, especially in the Nursing field. The visitors were invited to continue with the discussion over lunch prepared by the students of the Institute of Hotel Management and Tourism.
