Bethlehem University’s Dr. Nahida Al-Arja Participates in the 14th International Pan Arab Conference of Psychiatry
On October 20-22, Dr. Nahida Al-Arja, Assistant Professor at the Department of Social Sciences at Bethlehem University, attended the 14th International Pan Arab Conference of Psychiatry in Amman, Jordan. The conference was organized by the Arab Federation of Psychiatrists and sponsored by the World Psychiatric Association. Thirty-eight main speakers and thirteen guest speakers from all around the world participated in the conference which was organized with the goal of discussing the latest research on the diagnosis and treatment of mental illnesses and mental disorders. Dr. Al-Arja presented her findings on love of life and its relationship with variables among high school and university students in the West Bank. The results were that, even though Palestinian students have greatly suffered having lived through several wars and uprisings, they still love life. These results coincide with other researcher findings that the love of life manifests during times of war and catastrophes. Dr. Qassim Hussein Salih, Founder and President of the Iraqi Psychological Association, expressed his interest in Dr. Al-Arja’s research. He called for carrying out a similar research on Iraqis, who have lived through wars for thirty-six years, to see if they still have a love for life.
