Bethlehem University Awarded $1,575,000 by USAID-ASHA for Library Renovation

USAID through its ASHA (American Schools and Hospitals Abroad) division has awarded Bethlehem University a 1,575,000 USD grant toward the renovation of its Library. The grant came through the Christian Brothers Conference in North America.

In 1973 Bethlehem University was established in the 1893 building of the Frères School. In 1977 the Library was the  first building added to the University campus when enrollment was only 420; today it is more than 3,200. In 1977 there were no personal computers, internet or email, so the library wasn’t equipped for what is now an important part of academic life.

Dr. Mellie Brodeth, director of the University’s library, said she is very grateful for the award and is very much looking forward to putting it to good use. The goal of the  Library renovation is to transform the Library into the intellectual hub of the University, positively impacting all faculties of Bethlehem University.

The renovated Library will include meeting rooms for group work, IT pods and Wi-Fi access, and a new rooftop Library Café.
