A New La Sallian Book – Come and Read!

“Giving their own lives… even to the point of shedding their blood,” is a book that documents the life and martyrdom of 165 Christian Brothers, also known to us as De La Salle Brothers. The deaths through martyrdom took place during the difficult moments of the civil war in Spain from 1936 to 1939. The former Superior-General, Brother Alvaro, in his  introduction to the book, referring to the reality that the Brothers’ fidelity to the educational ministry is already in itself, an authentic type of daily martyrdom (p.5), wrote:

“You are called to suffer a constant martyrdom, which is no less violent for the spirit than Saint Bartholomew’s was for his body. You must, so to speak, tear off your own skin which Saint Paul calls the old man, in order to be clothed with the spirit of Jesus Christ, which is, according to the same Apostle, the new man.” (Meditation 159.3, on the feast of Saint Bartolomew, Apostle).

The narratives in the book may serve as an encouragement, an inspiration when the going gets rough, through life’s ups and downs, and in the midst of circumstances where one’s faith is put to the test.

We invite you to read through the book’s pages and have a taste of the La Sallian spirituality and mettle.
