Bethlehem University proudly highlights the recent research of Dr. Rabiha Elyan, Assistant Professor in the Early Childhood Education Department, in collaboration with Dr. Nuha Iter from Palestine Technical University. Their study, titled “Proposed Visualization for Integrating STEAM-Related Learning Outcomes into Teacher Qualification Programs at Palestinian Universities: A Qualitative Study”, explores how the STEAM approach can be incorporated into teacher qualification programs in Palestinian universities.
The study examines the current integration of STEAM-related learning outcomes (ILOs) in these programs and proposes a framework for their inclusion. The research reveals that while the STEAM approach is limited in teacher training programs, critical thinking, reflective thinking, collaborative learning, and problem-solving are the most common outcomes. Based on these findings, the study proposes a matrix with STEAM-informed ILOs across four levels: Knowledge, Mental Skills, Performative Skills, and Transferable Skills.
Dr. Elyan’s research suggests a practical framework for applying these ILOs at various levels, including through the Accreditation and Quality Assurance Commission (AQAC)and the Ministry of Higher Education. The goal is to empower future educators to implement the STEAM approach, helping to create productive and innovative schools.
This research, published in Dirasat: Educational Sciences Journal (Volume 51, Issue 14, 2024), offers important insights for transforming teacher training programs in Palestine and preparing teachers to meet the evolving demands of education.
Bethlehem University continues to support innovative research aimed at improving education in Palestine and beyond.
