This week, the Palestine Institute for Biodiversity and Sustainability (PIBS) took its Mobile Educational Unit to Um Safa, a village nearby Yatta in Hebron Governorate, for a two-day outreach program on Thursday and Friday 13-14 February 2025. Over 500 children and 100 adults participated in the educational activities, learning about Palestine’s rich natural environment.
The Mobile Educational Unit, the first of its kind in Palestine, is a new way to bring environmental education to communities across the West Bank. The goal is to help students, universities, and communities in remote areas understand and appreciate the importance of protecting Palestine’s natural resources.
Throughout the visits, the PIBS team engaged the community by emphasizing the significance of Palestine’s biodiversity and the role of nature reserves in maintaining ecological balance.
These visits are part of the “Green Palestine” project, implemented by World Vision in partnership with the Ma’an Development Center and funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany. The initiative is designed to inspire local youth, especially young women and girls, to explore Palestine’s natural environment and learn practical ways to contribute to its conservation.
In the coming months, PIBS will continue its educational outreach to a total of 80 communities across the West Bank, aiming to deepen environmental awareness and foster a generation of young people committed to protecting their natural heritage.
