Bethlehem University continues to foster innovative and student-centered learning through its newly established Academic Innovation Hub (AIH). Last week, faculty members gathered as Br. Alejandro Cerna, FSC, PhD, Dean of the Education Faculty, discussed the Transformational Educational Model’s vision and its role in enhancing teaching methodologies.
During the session, faculty members gained valuable insights into the Hub’s mission and the Faculty Development Program, which aims to equip faculty members with self-directed and impactful teaching strategies. Presenters provided an engaging overview of the model’s core principles, schedule, and expected outcomes, emphasizing its role in professional growth.
The session featured guest speakers, including Brother Hernán Santos, FSC, PhD, Vice Chancellor of Bethlehem University; Prof. Iman Saca, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Ms. Tina Hazboun, Co-Director of the AIH; and Ms. Paola Handal, Co-Director of the AIH, who shared their perspectives on the importance of educational transformation at Bethlehem University.
Building on these discussions, this week, the AIH hosted its second session of the Faculty Development Program on campus: Transforming Teaching with the Flipped Classroom Model. Led by Ms. Paola Handal, the session introduced faculty members to the concept of shifting traditional lectures into pre-class activities, allowing in-class time to focus on active learning and collaboration. The session highlighted benefits like increased student engagement and deeper understanding. Faculty members participated, exchanged experiences and challenges, creating a collaborative and insightful learning environment. These sessions were further enriched by the valuable insights of Dr. Khalil Issa and Dr. Rawan Gedeon, who contributed their expertise and experiences to support faculty members in integrating technology into their teaching.
Additionally, TechEd sessions, facilitated by Ms. Tina, provided faculty members with essential skills on using the university’s Learning Management System (E-Class).
Through these sessions, Bethlehem University reaffirms its commitment to academic excellence and innovation, ensuring its faculty are equipped with the necessary tools, strategies, and technological skills to enhance student learning.
