As part of their English for Advocacy course, fourth-year students from the English Department partnered with Program Manager Mr. Hamza Jalham from the Ibdaa Cultural Center and Gender Specialist and Focal Point Ms. Maysa Shalalda from Palestinian Family Planning and Protection Association to address the pressing issue of harassment. The collaboration culminated in a two-hour workshop held on campus, where students demonstrated their commitment to community engagement and social advocacy.
The English for Advocacy course empowers students to identify social issues affecting their community, address them collaboratively with local NGOs and organizations, and develop initiatives that provide tangible services. This approach equips students with the skills and knowledge to make meaningful contributions to society.
Students provided a comprehensive overview of harassment, including its definition, various types, and strategies for recovery. Under the slogan “Recognize, Report, Recover,” they emphasized the importance of awareness and action. Attendees received brochures containing vital information and contact numbers for support services, ensuring practical resources were available to those in need.
This initiative highlights the students’ ability to translate their learning into impactful community service, fostering independence and active participation in addressing societal challenges.
