MoU signed to Boost Technical and Vocational Training

In a significant step towards enhancing technical and vocational education in the region, Bethlehem University and the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce and Industry signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Thursday 24 October 2024. The agreement, which aims to create new job opportunities and contribute to sustainable economic development in Bethlehem, sets the stage for a robust collaboration between the two institutions.

The MoU was signed by Brother Hernan Santos, Vice Chancellor of Bethlehem University and Dr. Samir Hazboun, Chairperson of the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce, during a formal ceremony held at Bethlehem University. This partnership underscores the shared commitment of both parties to address the local market’s evolving needs and reduce unemployment by offering market-oriented training programs.

As part of this agreement, the Chamber of Commerce will provide Bethlehem University with valuable insights and statistics about market trends and growth sectors, enabling the development of targeted vocational training curricula. Moreover, the Chamber will assist university students by identifying apprenticeships and job opportunities within local companies, aligning practical experiences with the students’ academic pursuits.

Bethlehem University, on the other hand, will offer comprehensive training programs designed to meet market demands. Courses will be conducted at the University’s Institute of Hotel Management & Tourism, focusing on areas such as Culinary Arts, Pastry Making, and Barista skills. The training sessions, scheduled to begin in November 2024, will provide participants with essential skills to thrive in Bethlehem’s growing hospitality sector.

This partnership highlights a shared vision for the future of Bethlehem’s labor market, particularly in empowering young people and equipping them with the skills necessary to succeed. Both parties have expressed their excitement about the potential for further collaborations, including innovative projects and joint study visits to enhance networking and knowledge of the local economy.

The MoU, valid for one year, represents a foundational agreement between Bethlehem University and the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce, with the possibility of future amendments as new opportunities arise. This collaboration is poised to make a significant impact on vocational training and employment in the region, ultimately contributing to the sustainable development of Bethlehem.
