On Tuesday, 8 October 2024, Bethlehem University Student Ambassadors participated in a powerful virtual exchange with individuals from diverse backgrounds across the United Kingdom. Organized by Mr. David Griffith, Chair of the Interfaith Group in Norwich, and Revd Canon David Longe, Trustee of the Friends of the Holy Land, the meeting created a space for meaningful discussion on shared values, cultural perspectives, and pressing political challenges.
The dialogue provided an opportunity for the UK participants to broaden their perspectives and connect personally with Bethlehem University students, who shared insights on issues such as social justice and human rights. Hearing firsthand accounts of life under occupation in Palestine moved the UK attendees, many of whom remarked on the unique value of learning directly from those living the realities they’d previously only encountered in news reports. “This meeting has inspired me to learn more and share these insights with my own community,” one participant shared, highlighting the impact of the exchange.
The event also allowed Bethlehem University students to highlight the significance of their university as a beacon of hope and resilience. The Student Ambassadors emphasized the vital role education plays in fostering justice, advocacy, and empowerment in their lives.
Following the meeting, the UK participants expressed a renewed commitment to advocating for social justice and solidarity with Palestine, while both groups underscored the transformative nature of cross-cultural connections. Gratitude was widely shared as participants reflected on the experience of bridging international divides and fostering understanding across borders.
