In a powerful collaboration that reflects Bethlehem University’s commitment to community development and sustainability, the Palestine Institute for Biodiversity and Sustainability (PIBS), alongside Women Media and Development/TAM and the Nahalin Municipality, launched a transformative initiative: a series of training workshops to establish a Women’s Environmental Center in Nahalin. This center aims to empower women, provide programs for children, and benefit the wider community.
The first workshop, held on Monday, 30 September 2024, set the tone for the initiative. Participants, eager and engaged, explored strategies for managing environmental projects and organizing community activities. In the second session, they learned how to design environmental awareness programs specifically tailored to women and children, sparking ideas on how to foster local engagement. The day concluded with an interactive exercise, where participants collaborated to create innovative environmental activities inspired by real-life scenarios, cultivating a spirit of teamwork and creativity.
On Wednesday, 2 October 2024, a second workshop was held and shifted focus to the unique biodiversity of Palestine and the importance of documenting and preserving cultural heritage. The women, inspired by the rich history and natural beauty of their homeland, participated in a tour of the museum exhibits and the botanical garden, allowing them to connect firsthand with the concepts discussed.
This initiative is more than just training; it is the beginning of a movement where women lead the charge in environmental stewardship, embodying Bethlehem University’s mission to nurture change-makers and build a sustainable future for all.
