Dr. Ghassan Handal, a familiar face at Bethlehem University, has spent two-thirds of his life within its halls. From his early days as a lab assistant in the Biology Department to his recent appointment as Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Technology, and Engineering, Dr. Handal has been an integral part of the university’s academic community.
A graduate of Bethlehem University’s Chemistry Department class of 1994, Dr. Handal’s passion for science was ignited early on. His pursuit of knowledge led him to Germany, where he earned a Master’s degree, further solidifying his expertise in the field.
Returning to Bethlehem University, Dr. Handal quickly established himself as a dedicated educator and leader. As chairperson of the Biology Department, he played a crucial role in shaping the curriculum and fostering a vibrant academic environment. His commitment to student success led him to develop the Medical Laboratory Sciences (MLSC) program, a testament to his innovative approach to education.
Dr. Handal’s academic journey culminated in the completion of his PhD, focusing on parasitology and microbiology. His research in these areas has continued to inform his teaching and contribute to the broader academic community.
Beyond his academic pursuits, Dr. Handal has been deeply involved in community engagement. His role as coordinator of the Lasallian formation program and his involvement with the Catholic-Academic-Exchange-Service (KAAD) demonstrate his commitment to social responsibility and international collaboration.
As Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Technology, and Engineering, Dr. Handal brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the university’s mission.
