On 28 September 2024, the Palestine Institute for Biodiversity and Sustainability (PIBS) at Bethlehem University, in collaboration with Women of the Sun, hosted a workshop for women from marginalized Palestinian communities.
The event focused on practical solutions to water shortages, beginning with a hands-on session where participants learned to make biodegradable detergents. These eco-friendly alternatives are free from harsh chemicals, making them safe for reuse in agriculture—a crucial strategy in water-scarce areas.
The workshop included a tour of the Palestine Museum of Natural History, as well as visits to the ethnography exhibit and the botanical garden. During the botanical garden tour, participants explored innovative hydroponic and aquaponic systems, which play an essential role in conserving water and supporting sustainable agriculture. They also learned about gray water reuse, providing valuable insights into addressing water scarcity exacerbated by environmental injustices.
The workshop equipped participating women with practical skills and knowledge, empowering them to promote water conservation and eco-friendly practices in their communities.
