Bethlehem University’s Job Creation Project Empowers Local Community

Bethlehem University’s Institute for Community Engagement and Partnership (ICEP), in collaboration with the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem, recently celebrated the success of its “Emergency Project for AFAQ – Job creation component.” The initiative provided employment opportunities for over 20 individuals between the ages of 18 and 60.

To recognize the contributions of the participants, ICEP hosted a celebratory event on Friday, 9 August 2024. The gathering brought together project partners, university officials, and workers to acknowledge their efforts.

Launched in April 2024 in response to the economic downturn affecting Bethlehem, the project aimed to alleviate financial burdens on local residents by creating jobs within the university. Through extensive planning and collaboration among university departments, the initiative offered a range of tasks, including renovation, landscaping, and general maintenance.

The project had a significant positive impact on the lives of the participants. Many expressed gratitude for the opportunity to earn a living and contribute to their families’ well-being. The project also allowed participants to develop new skills and gain valuable work experience.
