Each week at the Palestine Institute for Biodiversity and Sustainability (PIBS) is unique, but all activities are centered on its core mission of environmental conservation. PIBS aims to conserve the environment by raising awareness about the importance of a healthy environment and how people’s daily actions, often done without thinking, heavily affect it.
During the week of July 15, the PIBS team worked directly with 165 children through a series of educational and interactive activities designed to foster a deeper understanding of environmental conservation. These activities included guided visits to PIBS exhibits and the botanical garden, where children learned about local biodiversity, the importance of various ecosystems, and the role humans play in maintaining ecological balance. Additionally, following the tours and as part of PIBS’s weekly children’s educational program, the children engaged in hands-on activities such as recycling crafts and environmental games, enhancing their understanding of sustainable practices.
The PIBS team also conducted off-campus educational activities through their project with Cremisan, where they took the children to Cremisan and provided them with hands-on experiences in nature. This allowed the children to observe and learn about the local flora and fauna in their natural habitat. The team used these opportunities to emphasize the impact of human actions on the environment and to teach practical ways to minimize negative effects.
Beyond working with children, the PIBS team has advanced its environmental conservation mission by exploring collaborations with various organizations. Notably, representatives from Dura Municipality visited PIBS to discuss potential partnerships, alongside other similar engagements.
The PIBS team remains committed to its mission of environmental conservation through research, education, community engagement, and collaborations.
