The Palestine Institute for Biodiversity and Sustainability (PIBS) currently has 12 volunteers, with 7 of them residing at PIBS. This is the highest number of volunteers the institute has hosted simultaneously since the war began 9 months ago.

The group is diverse, including individuals from China, the USA, and Britain, as well as local Palestinian volunteers. Many of these local volunteers are current students or graduates of Bethlehem University, along with others from various regions within the West Bank, such as Nablus and Jenin. Additionally, the institute is actively collaborating with remote volunteers on various tasks.

Since its establishment in 2014, PIBS has relied heavily on volunteer efforts. Volunteers contribute to a wide range of projects, bringing their unique ideas and expertise to the institute. They engage in activities such as writing grant proposals, conducting research, manuscript writing and editing, graphic design, creating educational materials, planting, weeding, feeding animals, watering, harvesting, and more.

This week, PIBS will bid farewell to three of its volunteers. To show appreciation for their hard work and dedication, PIBS Founder and Director Prof. Mazin Qumsiyeh and his wife Jessie, who are both full-time volunteers at the institute, hosted a farewell dinner for the volunteers on Thursday night, 18 July 2024.

Volunteering at PIBS offers opportunities to learn new skills, make valuable contributions, meet new people, and immerse in Palestinian culture. For more information on volunteering at PIBS, visit their website.
