Bethlehem University was delighted to host a visit from the German Association of the Holy Land (DVHL) on 15 July 2024. Ms. Reem Awwad Akroush (BU ’02), DVHL Acting Director, and Ms. Corrine Albina, Project Coordinator, met with Shahinda Nassar (BU ’05), Advancement Office Manager, who provided an update on the university’s latest developments and initiatives.
This visit follows a generous grant from DVHL that has been instrumental in helping Bethlehem University enhance the capacity of its Resource Center for Students with Disabilities. The DVHL delegation had the opportunity to meet students directly benefiting from this support and witness the positive changes it has brought.
They engaged in inspiring conversations with the students and with Ms. Hind Zahdeh (BU ’09), the Resource Center Officer, gaining a deeper understanding of the comprehensive services offered. These services include indoor and outdoor training, communication skills development, and computer skills training – all designed to equip students for successful futures as part of Bethlehem University’s inclusion strategy. It’s noteworthy that Bethlehem University stands as the only university in the area with a specialized Resource Center for Students with Disabilities, attracting interest from other institutions eager to learn from its model.
The DVHL delegation also met with Salam Awad, Dean of the Tarek Ahmad Juffali Faculty of Nursing and Health Sciences, who shared exciting updates about the Nursing program at the Qubeibeh campus. This program represents another crucial area that has benefited from DVHL’s longstanding support. Ms. Reem further discussed the possibility of a training partnership for Bethlehem University nursing students with hospitals in Germany, opening doors for potential future collaborations.
Bethlehem University expresses its deepest gratitude to DVHL for their continued support and commitment to enriching the educational experience and opportunities for its students. The university also takes pride in welcoming its graduates, like Reem, who hold influential positions within organizations that continue to support the educational mission of Bethlehem University.
