Bethlehem University Writing Competition Winners’ Reading Event

The English Department at Bethlehem University held its annual reading event for its 8th Creative Writing Competition for on Thursday, 16 May 2024. Organized by Ms. Paola Handal and Mr. Layth Awwad, this competition was open to all aspiring writers accross the university who have a passion for creative writing.

Like previous years, the competition offered participants an opportunity to showcase their writing skills in various categories including poetry, short story, and creative non-fiction. More importantly, it aimed to promote creativity, encourage originality, and celebrate the art of writing.

All submissions were judged by a committee and winners were selected based on originality, creativity, and overall writing style. The top three finalists in each category were then given the honor of presenting their winning entries to an audience of their peers in Furno Hall. This was a fantastic opportunity for emerging writers to gain recognition and showcase their talent to a wider audience.

Short fiction category:
First Place: Haneen Halayqa, “Said in the Shadows”
Second Place: Bayan Najajrah, “The Prophecy of Crystalluria”
Third Place: Fatma Alzahra Twaib, “The Wrath of Lilith”

Poetry category:
First Place: Leen Tamimi
Second Place: Vanessa Gazzawi
Third Place: TIE- Lama Kudsi Duewk and Zeina Shareef
