Bethlehem University alumna, Serina Massu, represented the Science4People team at the European Physical Society (EPS) – 11th Young Minds Leadership Meeting, which was organized by the Physics & Optics Naples Young Student (PONYS), in Naples, Italy in May 2023.
Reflecting on her experience at the 11th EPS meeting, Serina shared, “I was honored to represent the S4P team at an international level. The meeting provided a great opportunity for our team to expand our network and learn from other groups and sections working toward similar goals in their respective countries. We were inspired by the different outreach methodologies discussed, which we can implement back in Palestine to empower the young generation of scientists and students.”
Science4People team is formed of students from the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Technology, and Engineering at Bethlehem University who run a science outreach program. Their aim is to communicate scientific concepts in new ways. They organize interactive science fairs for students in various primary schools to bring the power, utility, and fascination of science to students who are lacking science equipment as well as resources.
The Monte Sant’Angelo Physics Department of Federico II University of Naples served as the venue for the conference that brought together participants from 29 EPS sections representing 20 countries. During the conference, a poster session, centered around the theme of the best activity in 2022, showcased Serina’s participation with a poster on the science fair event held at Laura Vicuna school in Cremisan-Bethlehem.
The Science4People team extends its gratitude to the EPS and PONYS team for the invitation to join this meeting. It was a tremendous pleasure for the team to participate and engage in such an enriching experience.
