Plans For Academic And Research Cooperation Underway
On 3 April 2012, seven professors representing five Dutch universities visited Bethlehem University to explore programs of cooperation, joint research, faculty and student exchange programs, and related areas of academic interest. The delegation was also able to learn more about the work of Bethlehem University, as well as the dedication of the Brothers to the continued success of the students and University, summed up by Br. Peter: “Bethlehem University has served the Palestinian community for almost 40 years. We look forward to continuing that service for another 40 years – and beyond – with even more vigor and enthusiasm
Dutch delegation the delegation was welcomed by Vice Chancellor Br. Peter Bray, FSC, Vice President for Academic Affairs Br. Robert Smith, FSC, and Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Irene Hazou. After a preliminary meeting, which included discussion, the entire group attended the regularly scheduled meeting of the University’s Academic Council.
The visitors then broke off into smaller meetings, according to fields of interest, with various Bethlehem University Deans, Chairs, and faculty members. The visit concluded with an impressive lunch in Hotel Management, which was prepared and served by HM students, who were noted for their excellent performance.
Br. Peter was enthusiastic about the outcomes of the visit. “Having international academic partners, such as those from top notch universities in the Netherlands, expands both our abilities and our offerings. We welcome such cooperation and hope this visit bears much fruit for all sides in the areas of joint research projects, student-professor exchanges, establishing cooperative programs, and other exciting opportunities that will inevitably arise, over time.”
Br. Robert is also excited about the opportunities being explored. “We look forward to continued exploration and implementation of the exciting research and projects between Bethlehem University and the excellent Dutch universities we are partnering with, as we continue to raise the bar on academic excellence and quality of teaching and research here at Bethlehem University.”
