Simulation Training Workshop

Faculty of Nursing and Health Sciences at Bethlehem University hosted four guests from United Kingdom (Dr. Tony Jefferis, Mr. Alex Saunders, Mrs. Katy Jones and Mr. Paul Wilder) who are specialized in the simulation based education and they delivered five days training course in the simulation center from 3rd to 7th April, 2017. Nine staff from the nursing faculty attended this training course and expressed their interest and simulation added value to the quality of nursing education at Bethlehem University. The training course is designed to give the staff in nursing faculty the essential foundations on which to build simulation based education system for the nursing students and other learners. This training course has been funded by PRIME and coordinated by Mrs. Mariam Awad, the dean of nursing faculty and health sciences. The training schedule was as following:

Day one consists of theoretical sessions and general introduction about the simulation history, educational theories of simulation and the fundamental aspects of scenario design and scenario descriptors.

Day two consist of highly interactive sessions about the effective briefing and debriefing techniques using the appropriate reflection modules and theories that will make briefing and debriefing less challenging, and ultimately lead to more effective learning events and supportive learning environment.

In day three, the nursing faculty staff build and run several simulation scenarios and practiced the briefing and debriefing skills with effective feedback to explore the key aspects to the art of simulation.

In day four, the guests and the nursing faculty visited Battir village for simulation orientation outside the simulation center in order to practice several scenarios in the field using the SIM-Man3G and the standardized patient. Mr. Alex Saunders, the clinical simulation lead provided an overview about the general features of the high fidelity manikin (SIM-Man3G) and other troubleshooting technical issues related to the hands on repair and fault diagnosis of the SIM-Man3G.

In day five, the staff in the nursing faculty spend the day in the simulation center running, debriefing and participating several clinical scenarios with the added unique opportunity to watch and critique each other. Also, we discussed the proper way for integrating the clinical simulation in the nursing curriculum. Certification from Brighton University & PRIME/UK has been distributed among participants by the end of the training workshop.
